And the award goes to…
15 times a report from HGB stands at the end of this sentence. Our customers were big winners at the ARC Awards – the “Oscar” for corporate reports. The 2021 annual reports won 1 time in the highest category, shining furthermore in Gold (4 times), Silver (4 times) and Bronze (3 times), in addition to 3 Honors awards. We congratulate our customers on this great success!
Congratulations to the winners: A round of applause times 15
ARC stands for “Annual Report Competition”, and bestows probably the most prestigious awards in the world of corporate reporting. Five of our customers received Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honors awards for their 2021 reports – in some cases in several categories: Armacell, BioNTech, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank, Evonik and TeamViewer. The top category in this competition is the “Grand Award”. The overall winners in this category are chosen from all the Gold winners. And here, too, an HGB report came out on top: Our customer BioNTech can now add this special award to its trophy collection.
Our list of customer winners
1 x Grand · 4 x Gold · 4 x Silver · 3 x Bronze · 3 x Honors
Every year, the Annual Report Competition (ARC) Awards honor corporate reports from all over the world that impress with their tailored design concepts and appropriate image and text worlds. In 2022, for the 36th time, almost 1,660 submissions from 33 countries were received. Depending on the submission, participant reports are judged in 35 overarching categories such as "Cover/Design" or "Interior Design," which in turn are divided into subcategories according to industry or other criteria. In addition, there are 13 country categories ("Best of..."). Based on the number of points achieved, a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Honors award is presented. The best report in a category can receive the Gold Award only when it has achieved the minimum number of points required. The same applies to the Silver, Bronze and Honors awards. The Grand Award, considered the "Oscar" of corporate reports, goes to the respective category winners. It is presented as a special distinction to the best Gold reports from a category. This year, the awards ceremony will take place on October 22 in Barcelona. The winning reports illustrate outstanding global trends and developments in the implementation of financial media.
Independent, international and objective
The organizer MerComm Inc. in New York has been hosting the world's largest annual report competition for the ARC Awards since 1987, in addition to several other award ceremonies.
The ARC Awards do not have any accompanying advertising, a supplementary magazine or an overarching interest group. There are no memberships and no external sponsors. This is intended to guarantee the neutrality of the judges. It's all about pure competition and a fair review of the reports by experts. The jurors are neither professors nor publishers of journals. They are professionals who themselves work on business reports day after day: designers, copywriters, photographers, IR specialists and other industry representatives.
For three decades, companies from all over the world have been competing for the ARC Awards. Accordingly, the jurors also come from Europe, Asia and America.
The selection of the jurors is random, as is the assignment of who reviews which reports. Jury members have no say in which publications are submitted for evaluation. This means that neither the work of favorites nor that of competitors can be singled out. It is also impossible for jurors to evaluate their own work.
It’s less and less about the narrative, and more and more about the facts. Under this motto, around 30 participants at the HGB event “sustainability – it counts” discussed why the future of sustainability management and communication will be about stringency, substance and transparency. After a lively day full of exchange, interaction and insights, employees, clients and representatives of HGB’s partner companies all agreed that the pilot project had been a success and would like to see it repeated next year!Mehr erfahren
Is CSRD becoming a storytelling spoiler in sustainability reporting? HGB Managing Director Peter Poppe explores this question in his guest article in the current issue of new business, a trade magazine for communication and media. Poppe is certain that the new EU standard will fundamentally change sustainability reporting. He’s also certain that there’s always room for compelling corporate stories – what’s needed is just the right concepts and formats.Mehr erfahren

The topic of sustainability is a growing concern, not just for society as a whole but also for us as a specialized agency for high-quality reporting. The result: an outstanding gold medal! Here you can find out more about how we turned silver into gold …Mehr erfahren
